For two weeks now, we've been trying to raise the money we need to continue our mission, and the going has been slow… so slow that we are beginning to question whether we'll make it.
We may indeed have to make immediate cutbacks in our coverage – and eventually fold completely – unless the contributions pick up soon.
We live in precarious times, and grim omens mount as the days go by. While the war in Iraq may be winding down, the other war, in Afghanistan and Pakistan, promises to become an even bigger disaster, with no end in sight. And the bright hope that many saw in the election of Barack Obama is dimmed considerably by the looming appointment of Hillary Clinton as secretary of state – and she's only the most famous of a bevy of pro-war, pro-empire counselors in Obama's camp.
In short, Antiwar.com has never been more necessary – and never more in danger of closing up shop.
This has been one difficult fundraising campaign, but it isn't over yet. There's still a chance for us to make it – but we can't do it without you, our readers and supporters.
