Hugh seems to think that genetically modified foods are the only way to feed the planet. Monsanto, the company that gave us the Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH), has been providing seeds for billions of acres of crops that are now genetically altered. In addition, I came across this article today in the NY Times about how the science advisor to Condoleezza Rice also thinks genetically altered crops are just fabulous. Here’s the thing, if we all migrated towards eating less meat there would be plenty of food to go around without having to tamper with Mother Nature. It takes 16 pounds of soy to make 1 pound of beef… so next time you’re hungry, how about a non-GMO veggie burger instead of a dead cow.
