AFTER THE BEACH…
Ever notice when you are at the beach that you can get
distracted and forget about the world and all
it’s many problems? Who cares about the news,
the economy, and politics.? Hot
Who cares about the lawn that needs mowing and the
groceries that need to be bought, the house that needs
cleaning or the car that needs servicing? Life is suspended
in a bliss that you wish would last forever. The smells,
and sounds of the waves and sea air and the gulls cry
put you in a heavenly mood that no one can break. Sun
The only thing you care about is not burning and
getting sand in places you really would rather not
mention, and it doesn’t rain. As you pack up your
gear, you look around and see that others are not.
Why do they get to stay and YOU have to leave? Hot
Why do they get to keep their having fun and have more
fun and you have to go?? Crying This is usually where the
kids are screaming to stay longer and you are fighting
with them to get packed up. Chasing them down the beach
and back into the water. Confused They aren’t dumb, they want to
stay suspended in time and never return to the reality of home.
As you pack up to leave,
you take about half the beach sand with you, sticking to
your sweaty skin.
There is a smell in your hair and on your
skin that stays with you after you get home that
reminds you of where you have been. Your blanket and
beach bags, picnic basket and chair are all covered in
granules of sand that seem to cling for dear life, no matter what
you do to get rid of them.
Your hair is brittle and
your tired from fighting the traffic and the backup on
the freeway is terrible.
You arrive home finally, exhausted,
with one flip flop and without that pair of sunglasses you hunted
for forever, Hot the ones that would make you look so cool on the beach.
You now know you are a whole lot redder at home that you thought you
were on the beach. Hot You peel off your beach clothes and it
seems the sand and the sun and fun distracted you from the
truth. You look like a lobster that has just come from the boiling pot! Eye-rolling
No mattter what you use on your skin, you know it will be so tender and
it will be hard to sleep or put “real clothes” on top of. Confused The shower feels
good but the skin that is tender and the peeling feels pretty terrible.
A DAY AT THE BEACH..
LOST GLASSES..14.00 SAND ALL OVER YOUR HOUSE
LOST FLIPFLOP 2.00 CHORES NOT DONE
SUNBURNT SKIN.. (oh well)
TRIP TO THE BEACH……… PRICELESS!!! Smile

I can’t say I’m much of a beach person. At the risk of sounding sexist, relaxing on a beach is more of a women’s pasttime than a man’s. Kids enjoy the beach, sure. Swimming when I was young was the ultimate high. Now that I’m older, I need water that’s warm, something hard to find in Michigan.
That said, I absolutely love the ocean–the surf, the sea, the shells, the ambience. I love the sounds, the smell of ripe sea air, and the sundry sights whether boats, bikinis, or sand castles.
