My previous post was kind of a downer. But things are looking up a bit:
• I’m going to get my raise soon.
• Day 2 of having to run the GED classes in addition to my math classes went off as good as could be expected. (Or is that “as well as could be expected”?)
• I sent my Page 1-9 revisions down to Editor B in Eugene. She wrote back and said she’d have the rest of the book looked at by next week. The more I think about it, the more I realize that having an editor on your book is like having a director. They see things you don’t see, they take the book in directions that you hadn’t thought of, so it’s a little disconcerting. I’ve written literally every word of this book myself. But changes, cuts, suggestions, cuts-and-pastes—this is turning into something new. It’s a strange feeling, but it’s nice to see something beautiful emerging from the crap of my first and second drafts.
• My boss and I got the PPS report done. (Isn’t it sad that you, whoever you are, just finished reading a sentence about some random guy’s PPS report? It’s times like these when we really have to take stock of our lives. That’s what I think.)
• Just talked to my son’s football coach, sort of a get-to-know-you chat. I told him that C Jr. is excited to play football, but has a lot of anxiety about not performing well, not remembering plays, etc. Also, he’s still recovering from the horror of seventh grade football, where he got stuck on the defensive line, and even when he did good things (sacks, fumbles, tackles for loss) his idiot coaches completely ignored him. This coach seems like he has his act together. First game: Next Friday vs. Gresham in Eugene, two hours away. I don’t think I can make it, which is fine with C Jr. because he knows he’ll be nervous his first game and said he doesn’t want me to be there. But the following week, they’ll be playing Oregon City, which only 20 minutes from here.
You, of course, will get to hear all about it. Maybe you care not one bit about how my kid performs in Freshman football, but then again, it beats reading about my PPS reports.
Uh oh! Does C. Jr. play my alma mater (Sheldon)?
I’m going up there in 3 weeks for my 10 year high school reunion. Good times.
Oh, you’d better believe it. We’ve got Sheldon circled on the calendar. And I’ve instructed C Jr. to make that day about one thing:
Pain.
Actually, none of that is true. Though they do play each other on Oct. 23.
Enjoy your reunion. I heard there ain’t no reunion like a Sheldon reunion, cuz a Sheldon reunion don’t stop.
I’m also into freshman football. First game is tonight but WT isn’t getting to play, which is a real bummer for both of us. I’m getting to drive half an hour from work to home to get the little kids and then from home to the game is another hour. Thank goodness my bosses understand a little thing like leaving 2 hours early from work!
I hope C Jr does great! Can’t wait for the updates!
