Glock to maintain form?

Toyota pilot Timo Glock is confident he can continue his points-scoring run in this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix.

The reigning GP2 champion’s first full Formula 1 season has gathered significant momentum in recent weeks, seeing Glock take a superb second place in Hungary, before coming through from the middle of the pack to seventh at Valencia.

Those results have left him very fired up for Spa. Glock said:

“I am going to Belgium with a lot of confidence because our performance in the last few races has been very impressive and we have proved we can fight at the front,

“Personally it is very satisfying to have scored points in the last two races despite feeling unwell both times and I really believe we have made a lot of progress.

“It’s really good for the team to be scoring points regularly and challenging for the podium.”

Glock and team-mate Jarno Trulli’s recent results have established Toyota in a comfortable fourth place in the constructors’ championship, ten points clear of nearest rival Renault, however the duo will have to continue to score points if Toyota are to equal their best ever position in the Constructors’ Championship this year.

The German’s only concern for Spa is whether the Toyota will be as strong on Bridgestone’s harder tyres as it was on the softer rubber used for the Hungarian and European races.

“We hope we will be strong again in Spa but we will see how it goes with the harder compound Bridgestone tyres,

“I am confident we can finish in the points again.”

Neal’s View: Toyota have really improved this year, probably because they have got rid of the lazy Schumacher and now have two drivers wanting to improve the car, rather than collect their $25m salary. Whether Toyota can sow an improvement on the harder tyre is the big question. All Formula One cars prefer one compound over the other, even the McLarens and Ferraris.
