When people talk about the best wedding photographer it is always difficult to get everyone to agree on a person. With photography as with any art form it is always subjective, what some would say is a "Fantastic Photographer" others would say "The Worst Photographer". The main two styles are "Formal" (Set up photographs, where the photographer chooses the location, who is in the picture, and pose.), and "Informal" (The photographer does not influence what is happening in the picture or where it is taking place.) Formal wedding photography can also be classed as traditional, classical.....etc, and informal wedding photography can also be called reportage, storybook, journalistic, documentory, candid......etc. There are some wedding photographers who specialise in one or the other and some do both. Within each style there are photographers that choose different techniques to capture the events of the day. Some prefere not using flash, where some use either hand held / camera mounted flash guns or studio lighting, (The latter is not used by reportage photographers.). My personal style is to incorporate all the different techniques to get the best out of the day. If wedding couples are more interested in one over the other then this is fine by me. When I shoot weddings in a reportage style I am more likely to not use flash unless it is essential to capture the procedings.
The types of wedding albums can either be a print/s behind an overlay on a page, several images composed into a montage image or a mix of both like "Formal & Informal".
Some photographers enter their work into photographic compititions to gain credibility. Most photographic compititions are judged by Fellows of which ever society is running the compitition. I have won awards for my photography, but I do not crave after every compitition going.
