Some Office Baroque footage, Some footage similar to Office Baroque
Gordon Matta-Clark died thirty years ago today. He stayed in Antwerp for a while in 1977, just before his death, working with Florent Bex, creating Office Baroque, which he called anarchitecture. Pieces of his “building cuts” were sold around the world [1].

I like him, much as I like the near-contemporary and also short-lived Robert Smithson. Whither now, anarchitecture, and other visionary environments?

Matta-Clark also lived in Queens, i.e., an outer borough of NYC, for a while. He did research on the tax map of NYC and found “sliver lots,” i.e., pieces of property that somehow ended up being mapped between regular lots and that are too small to build anything on. He went out and photographed them and made little monuments there, and I think he published a book about them. There was an exhibit about this at the Queens Museum of Art a few years ago.
I also happen to be deeply involved with the tax map of NYC, the computer version, by way of my work, so I was very tickled to find out about this. Oh…the stories I could tell you about the property map of NYC..!
