So the new car is okay. Still getting used to the auto, occasionally jamming my left foot (along with my right) onto the brake (thinking I was going for the clutch) and stopping suddenly. Luckily it doesn’t stall, so it’s not too embarrassing.
Remember the Cold War? Man, those days were great. Proper spies and all that, nuclear threats, oil at $40 a barrel, movies in which the bad guy wasn’t the Brit.
There is an interesting lack of quality footage from Georgia. No correspondents? At the moment, Newsnight is showing shaky cameraphone footage and shaky camcorder footage of some Turkish journalists under fire in their car. The Telegraph is reporting that Russia is threatening a nuclear strike on Poland. Oink!
Hasn’t anybody told the Georgians/Americans that the Russians have their hand on the gas pipeline spigot? Forget about the nuclear button.
I ordered some more logs today. It’s the fuel of the 21st century, don’t you know. I noticed on this trip to France that there are considerable quantities of wood next to almost every house. And when I say considerable … I took that picture last winter, when it was exceptional in the village, but now just about everyone else has caught up. I’m surprised there are still trees left standing in France.
