Jobseekers at a jobs fair in California US unemployment at 15-year high US unemployment rose by 533,000 in November, official figures show, the biggest one-month rise since 1974.
Banks come under pressure from MPs to cut interest rates for mortgage customers, but savers may suffer.
Oil prices recover slightly to trade just above $44 a barrel, but remain near almost four-year lows as weak demand continues.
