http://parentsunderground.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/lindsaylohan.jpg Lindsay Lohan, 22 year old troubled star has called her father, Michael Lohan, a public embarrassment and a media hog who is not man enough to confront her to her face but has to do it through the media. Lohan said all these rotten things about her dad in her Myspace blog. Apparently her father believes that 31 year old girlfriend, Samantha Ronson is using his daughter. 

I suppose the larger issue might be that he has trouble with the same-sex relationship.  Ronson says she feels no great need to defend herself publicly but the only regret is that Lohan likes her more than her dad.

Lohan is upset that her father does not appear to respect her wishes and basically she wants him to butt out of her life in this way. Reading between the lines the father seems to be a big bully that Lohan’s mother and siblings have had to put up with throughout the years but not her. She tells him where to get off of her life and unto his own.

I think that celebrity parents does not know how to deal with their children after they become so successful. They themselves start looking at them as celebrities instead of their children.  I feel for those parents because what can you say with any weight at all when your children make tons more money than you and they have all their publicists, star fair weather friends and all the trimmings surrounding them.

Parents have to be there for their children because when all that is stripped away, the little child still needs parental approval, parental love and that sense of stability that comes from strong family support in a good way.  That is the strength parents have and that’s how they connect with their children. No one can replace parents in this way.  To quote Dr. Phil, parents have to step up to the plate and be parents.
