Obamas vetting process is a good thing
http://www.christopherspenn.com/2008/11/23/obamas-vetting-pr...I saw this story on CNN about the vetting process for the Obama administration being too cautious and too meticulous: some political observers say the president-elects similar caution with respect to recruiting new administration officials and key

Obama Wants Openness, Politico’s want “More of the Same”
http://edutechation.com/2008/11/23/obama-wants-openness-poli...What are we telling our children when we want less honesty, less scrutiny, less forthright politicians? Are we telling them it’s okay to cheat a little bit, we don’t need to know everything? This is a small quote from a CNN article: Obama’s vetting could chase away candidates - CNN.com …some political observers say the president-elect’s similar caution with respect to recruiting new administration officials and key high-level advisers may be turning away a string of qualified candidates wary of subjecting themselves and their families to the most rigid presidential vetting process on record. So, what does this say about these people? Why should we care about people that don’t want to go through a rigorous process? If they have nothing to hide then they shouldn’t care. This is the type of change that we need in Washington. This is the type of change that will bring the trust back to the White House. Technorati tags: Obama, President

Obama’s vetting could chase away candidates - CNN.com
http://www.obscanity.com/?p=908I don’t see how anybody could possibly be complaining about a rigorous vetting procedure, when politicians’ private lives are increasingly made public and scrutinized by the media. If he doesn’t get this stuff out into the open now, it will be uncovered by bloggers, and it will be made public at the most inopportune time - probably when these people are trying to actually accomplish something significant. There’s nothing quite like a major media scandal to derail the political process… In any event, I think we’ve all seen what happens when people fail to adequately vet their nominees…

Give up, you can’t win; also, roads. (Now with BONUS PORNOGRAPHIC SUBTEXT)
http://21cdb.wordpress.com/2008/11/22/give-up-you-cant-win-a...1. This CNN article amuses me , because it showcases just how doomed we are. Here’s the tl;dr if you’re into the brevity thing. * Obama is chasing away good candidates by requiring they be completely scandal-free (or “extensively vetted” if you want the neutral version) * An “early disastrous appointment” would be bad (in other words, he has to extensively vet everyone since all eyes are upon him). tl;dr everyone he picks is, by virtue of having been picked by Obama, wrong. 2. I’m going to go ahead and go on record as saying the economic stimulus plan of having everyone build roads is fucking idiotic. Oh sure, everyone agrees we need roads and solar power and new schools and all that crap. I’m pretty sure no one is arguing that point. But as I understand it, the plan is essentially a repackage of the New Deal stimulus packages: “Hey, all you out-of-work people! The government will give you a living wage and health insurance, and all you have to do is work building roads and shit.” That was a fantastic idea in 1933 . Frankly it worked, and well; I know all you Roosevelt haters want to deny that, but history isn’t really on your side. Anyway what that project did was take a bunch of people who earned their living building roads, but were out of work, and asked them to build roads. And lo! Roads were built. So what you’re now telling me is, we’re going to get the 6k Java developers laid off from Sun , and ask them to build roads? Yes, that’s a fantastic plan. Sign me up. BONUS PORNOGRAPHIC SUBTEXT

Obama's vetting could chase away candidates
http://insomniaccoder.com/post/61060215Obama's vetting could chase away candidates: And this is a problem because? Are we going to criticize this new administration simply because they are pushing people through a hard interview process? And what if the questionnaire is extremely invasive? Have you ever had to go through a god damn background investigation for cleared work? That thing is just horrible! I think this is just some dumbass making noise because he was promised a job and now has to jump through the hoops like everyone else. I see it as a good thing, let him push them hard to disclose everything before they can work for the executive branch. If you can’t stand the scrutiny, then you don’t belong at this level of public service.
