      Apple’s (AAPL) presence on the Web expanded to record levels in December, according to preliminary data released early New Year’s day by Net Applications. Mac OS X’s percentage of Web hits reached a record 9.63%, up more than 9% since November and nearly 32% from Dec. 2007. Gains for the iPhone were even more impressive. Its share of the Web traffic grew nearly 19% to hit a record 0.44%. That’s more than three and a half times the 0.12% share it recorded one year ago. The iPod’s Web share, meanwhile, grew 60% last month, from 0.05% to .08% — another sign of the strong holiday sales of the iPod touch reflected last week by a sharp rise in downloads from the App Store (see here). All told, the entire Mac OS X Web experience now stands at 10.15%. Microsoft (MSFT) Windows, meanwhile, continues its downward drift, having lost more than 1.1% of its Internet share in the space of a month. Windows PCs still dominate the Web, however, with 88.68% of page hits as measured by Net Applications. Net Applications’ monthly surveys are conducted by sampling browser data from some 160 million visits to Web sites operated by the firm’s clients. Although it describes the results as “market shares,” the Web metrics company does not actually measure share of market in the traditional sense of sales revenue or unit sales. It does, however, provide a consistent methodology by which to gauge browser and operating system trends. To see its Jan. 1 report, click here. The results are summarized in the table below. Hidden in these monthly figures are the sharp spikes recorded by Apple’s mobile devices around the holidays. You can see them in the day-to-day chart of Net Applications data posted early Thursday on The Mac Observer’s Apple Finance Board by member Alexis Cabot. In the graph below, the dark blue line represents Web hits from iPhones and the green line hits from iPod touches. It remains to be seen if the end-of-year trends hold up in 2009. A note on Net Application’s website warns: “The December holiday season strongly favored residential over business usage. This in turn increases the relative usage share of Mac, Firefox, Safari and other products that have relatively high residential usage.” (link)

        나는 MS머슴국(iT강국 이라고 우기는 철면피들도 있긴하다)에서 멸종위기에 몰린 리눅서이다. 아니, 엄밀히 말하면 MS머슴질을 벗어날 생각에 윈도우즈 못지않게 쉽다는 우분투를 깔짝거려 보다가 'MS전용 공인인증서'의 무자비한 폭력앞에 번번히 무릅을 꿇는 4천만 MS종놈 중의 한사람일 뿐이다. 온라인 금융결재에 MS전용 공인인증서 사용을 강제한 전자정부의 행위는 너무도 명백한 MS강매질이다. 이것을 달리 말하면 'MS강매에 응하지 않으려면 인터넷을 사용하지않는 미개인이 되라'는 말과 다르지 않게된다. 이런 '몰상식한 온라인 세계'는 오직 우리나라에만 존재한다. 이런 부당한 차별행위를 지적하는 문제제기가 나올때마다, 전자정부가 뱉어내는 변명질을 들어보면 너무도 유치하고 저능한 나머지 '안드로메다인의 후손'은 아닌지 의문을 제기하지 않을 수 없게된다. ㉿ 전자정부와 사법부가 뱉어낸 저능한 궤변의 대표적 사례 1. 금결원이 MS전용공인인증서를 배포한것은 사실이지만, MS사용을 강제하지는 않았다. @,@ 2. IE의 점유율은 98.7%이므로 1.3%에 불과한 타브라우저 사용자를 배려할 필요는 없다. @ㄴ@ 첫번째 궤변은 너무도 저능해서 굳이 대응의 필요성을 느끼지 못하여 건너 뛰련다. 하지만 2번째 궤변은 그 의도가 너무도 불순하고 모욕적이어서 저 말이 얼마나 양아치스런 발상인지 적나라하게 발가벗겨줄까한다. 정부측에서 말했듯이 우리나라의 IE점유율은 우주 최강이다. 거의 MS왕국이라 불러도 손색이 없는 MS세상임에 틀림없는 사실이다. 그런데 저 발언의 문제는 iT강국이 졸지에 세계에서 유래를 찾아보기 힘든 MS노예국으로 전락된 원인을 소비자의 자발적 선택에 의한것인양 왜곡하는, 개 양아치스런 의도를 담고있다는 것이다. 웹 브라우저별 세계시장점유율 [2008.12.1]통계 출처: CNN Money MS IE의 세계평균 점유율은 70%에 못미침에도, 어찌하여 유독 우리나라에서만 99%의 ie점유율이 나올수 있냐는 말이다. 이런 비정상적인 현상은, MS전용 공인인증서 사용을 강제한 것과 IE에 최적화된 인터넷인프라 말고는 설명할 방법이 없는 것이다. 내가 이런말을 하면 혹자는 "한국인들은 컴퓨터에 무지해서 OS에 기본으로 깔려있는 브라우저를 그냥 사용하기 때문이다"라는 어줍잖은 썰을 풀어대곤 한다. 그럼 한국인들이 부지런하고 새로운 iT정보와 학습능력이 세계최고라던 설레발은 새빨간 거짓말이었단 말인가? 세계에서 손꼽히는 인터넷활용 국가라는 말은 어떻고? 더구나 교육열도 세계최고라는 구체적 수치도 있지않은가 말이다. 이 뿐이라면 내가 말을 않겠는데, 세계과학경시대회와 수학경시대회를 휩쓸 정도로 뛰어난 학습능력과 지적능력을 소유한 민족이라고 자랑해온 나라가 우리나라 아니었던가 말이다. 그런데 iT기술의 시작점인 컴퓨터에서 만큼은 세계평균에 한참떨어지는 무식자들이 99%라니? 앞뒤가 맞는 말이라고 생각하는가 말이다. 좋다. 그럼 좀 덜 무식자인 본인이, 정부의 MS강매질로 이룬 MS노예국의 책임을 국민에게 떠넘기려 하는 저열한 양아치질을 조목조목 증명해 보이도록 하겠다. 1. MS세뇌교육. (어릴 때부터 '컴퓨터 = MS 윈도우즈'라고 세뇌시키고 있다) MS머슴을 배출하는 교육의 실태..그림출처: 대한민국의 초등학생을 MS께 봉헌합니다 2. MS전용 공인인증서의 사용을 강제 (MS제품 이외의 사용자체를 원천봉쇄하는 강매행위.) 3. MS강매인증서는 공정거래법에 저촉됨 (공정거래법이 존재하는 나라임을 기억해내자-_-;) 4. 전 세계적인 반-MS정서, 한국에선 더 심해 (한국정부의 MS강매질이 1차 이유다.) 내가 빌게이츠 였다면 한국정부를 <기업이미지훼손혐의>로 고발하고도 남았다. OS는 자동차, 브라우저는 타이어, 인터넷인프라는 도로 라고 비유해도 무리가 없을것이다. 모든차량의 통행이 자유로운, 즉 '도로'의 기본덕목(웹표준)을 해치지 않은 지극히 상식적인 도로를 구축한 전세계의 운전자들은 '파이어폭스 타이어'가 버전업하여 주행성능의 좋다고 판단되면, 언제라도 '구형IE 타이어'를 교체해 사용할수 있다. 속도의 제왕 Opera는 물론이고, 인터페이스가 월등히 개선된 '크롬 신개발 타이어'가 등장해도 아무런 제약없이 사용할 수 있다. Aple Mac 운전자들 역시 'mac의 기본 타이어인 사파리로'도 관공서는 물론 상업시설의 모든 도로와 주차장을 마음껏 드나들수 있는 지극히 상식적인 도로를 누비며 전세계와 장애없이 소통하고 있다. 하지만 대한민국의 도로는 오직 'MS윈도우즈 차량'에 'IE 타이어'를 장착한 운전자에게만 통행을 허가하고 있다. 얼마전에는 같은 MS사의 Vista라는 차량을 샀던 운전자들 조차 XP가 아니라는 이유로 통행권의 차별을 당하는 곤혹을 치뤄야 했던 적도 있었는데, 대국민 서비스정신이 투철한 한국정부는 국가의 이미지실추를 감수하면서까지 MS의 바지 가랑이에 매달리며 '제발 비스타에서도 IE전용도로를 다닐수 있도록 허가해 달라'며 애걸복걸하는 감동적인 드라마를 연출하기도 하였다. 국민을 위해 국가가 일개 영리기업에 굽신거리는 굴욕을 마다하지 않는 한국정부의 살신성인에 감동한 MS는 눈물을 훔치며 한국정부의 뒤통수를 쓰다듬어 줬다는 훈훈한 소식을 전세계에 전하기도 하였다. 오직 한국만을 위한 MS의 각별한 관용을 본 모든 한국인은, 은혜를 갚으려는 애뜻한 마음가짐으로 정부의 MS강매질에 순응함과 동시에 99%의 MS점유율로서 보은하고 있다는 풍문이 전세계에 회자 되기도 하였던 것이었던 것이었다. 대통령 후보의 도덕성을 묻지 않겠다던 양아치스런 말을 투표질로서 실현한 대한민국의 민주국민은 과연, - MS강매질의 진실을 몰라서 혀짤린개 마냥 순응중인 것인가? - 아니면, 진실을 알아차린 후에도 '훈련받은 개'로서의 면모를 유지할 것인가? - 쥐를 선호하는 국민성 탓일까? 음습하고 퀘퀘한 당나귀질이 한국인은 전혀 부끄럽지 않은가보다.

          There are a few new things on the Apple new radar from this past week you might find interesting. First up, the internet access statistics for the Mac has moved to 8.87%, a new high since these stats started being recorded. Interestingly, Microsoft-based browser access has moved below 90% for the first time, as well. iPhone internet access has also been climbing rather steeply. In line with that, Apple’s über haüt iPhone has been moving significantly forward in the Smartphone category, now holding a 16.6% share. Interestingly enough, Symbian-based devices from Nokia have been steadily losing ground, mostly to the iPhone, but in some small way to Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices, as well. Palm doesn’t even show enough to remain in this group, and the first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, hasn’t been around long enough to start making a dent. It might be interesting to see if Nokia’s new N97 will start to level off the Finnish handset makers drop in the rankings. Finally, Apple’s plans for a liquid cooled lappy have come to light, thanks to the ever vigilant US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The technology outlines a method to cool lappies by adding a circulating liquid system to what looks like a standard heatsink arrangement. Who knows. This may just work and we might see a quad-core lappy before too long.             A (not so) simple question: How many Mac users are there in the world?

            How many Mac users are there in the world? Pretty straigthforward, huh? Not so much. According to Apple in May 2006, there were about 15 million Mac OS X active users worldwide. In March 2007, the number of Mac OS X users was estimated to be 22 million strong, according to analysts at Bank of America Securities.  The Leopard release generated about 6 million more users. From their 2008 10-K form, you can see that their total Mac unit sales (desktop and portable, no iPod, no iPhone) were: 2008………9.71 million units 2007………7.05 million units 2006………5.30 million units Why I mention this? Well, there has been a steady increase of about 2 million unit sales in the last 2 years, so if this trend was to continue, we could expect 2009 to have about 11 million unit sales, 2010 to have about 13 million unit sales, and 2011 to have about 15 million unit sales.  Of course, this is a very linear assumption but I find it hard to find any analyst willing to predict a growth number beyond 1 quarter ahead. Therefore, the number of 22 million Mac users seems quite low. The well-respected research firm Gartner (after tweeting about them for a bit at http://twitter.com/idaconpts, now they are following me) estimated the installed Mac base at 25 million in 2007. Apple has sold about 10 million Macs in 2008, and nearly half to switchers from Windows (what they say in their earnings conference calls). So we can agree that 22 million Mac users worldwide is pretty low.  Dave Zeiler from the Baltimore Sun wrote an interesting article about the number of Mac users back in 2002 and he told me that “I don’t think anyone really knows what the Mac installed base is. That 25 million number from 2002, I believe, was uttered by Steve Jobs himself.  The most recent estimates I’ve seen place the current installed base for Mac OS X at 25 million, which seems impossible given the explosive growth in Mac sales in recent years.  Perhaps Jobs was exaggerating in 2002. So I’d guess that by the end of 2008 the Mac installed base should be close to 30 million. But I’m guessing.” Net Applications estimates Apple’s market share to be 8.87% for this November 2008. The question is: 8.87% of what? I wrote a couple e-mails to NetApplications and they replied: “The market share data is worldwide. The data is compiled from approximately 160 million visitors per month.The visitors are to a network of 40,000 websites.” So if the world has about 6.6 billion people, that would mean 0.57 billion Mac users. Somehow I think that’s too high.  I am trying to find how many people have access to a computer worldwide, maybe that would make more sense. However, my boss at iLovePhotos found an interesting way to approach this problem:  find the number of users for a must-have Mac application.  The Mail app from Mac seems like a good choice (Finder would be even better!).  Gabor Cselle from San Francisco wrote an interesting piece on the estimated number of users of popular e-mail applications and he estimated the number of Mail users to be around 50 million. So, which answer do you think is more sensible to the “how many Mac users are there in the world?” question: a) 25 million b) 30 million c) 50 million d) 0.57 billion e) none of the above What do you think?

              맥 인터넷에서 점유율 8.87% 차지

              애플의 맥이 인터넷에서 8.87%의 점유율을 차지했다고 리포트가 나왔다. http://apple20.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/12/01/mac-internet-share-hits-record-882-windows-drops-below-90/ 11월 인터넷 점유율에서, 맥은 8.87%를 차지했고, MS의 윈도는 89.62%를 차지했다. 맥은 전월에 8.21%를 차지했다. 즉 0.61%의 점유율 상승을 보였다. 또한 아이폰은 0.37%를 차지하였다. 따라서 애플 제품의 점유율은 9.24%를 차지하게 되었다. 리눅스도 0.71%에서 0.82%로 늘어났다. 브라우저는 IE가 69.86%를 차지하였고, 파이어폭스가 20.73%, 사파리가 7.10%를 차지하였다. 전월 대비 사파리와 크롬의 약진이 눈에 띈다. 사파리는 8.52%, 크롬은 12.16% 점유율이 상승하였다. 크롬의 출시로 웹킷 엔진 기반의 브라우저들이 재조명을 받는듯 하다. 전월 대비 운영체제와 브라우저의 실적 비교는 다음 표와 같다. 이런 데이터를 볼때마다, 우리나라의 데이터가 궁금해지고, 또한, 우리나라에서는 이런 그래프가 나올수 없다는 현실이 안타깝다.. 크리에이티브 커먼즈 라이선스이 저작물은 크리에이티브 커먼즈 코리아 저작자표시-비영리-동일조건변경허락 2.0 대한민국 라이선스에 따라 이용하실 수 있습니다.
