If I can’t get enough sleep, I can at least conserve energy elsewhere…
http://sarcasticmom.com/ ?p=364Since we here at The Carroll Household have been working to be kinder to the world we live in, I’ve talked to you about the walk that inspired this, the challenge I issued, our neighborhood clean-up, our switch to cloth diapers, and the cleaners we use around the house. There are also several easy things you can do to save energy in your home on a day-to-day basis. Here are some of the things we do… Adjust the thermostat. In the winter, we try to keep the thermostat between 64-68. It’s actually comfortable, and if you feel chilly, you can always warm up with sweaters, blankets, and warm liquids. Or with, um… fun activities.

Planting more than a tree...
http://revelationsofmissy.blogspot.com/2008/05/planting-more...This month's PSBN post is late but better late than never, right? This month I am going to talk about trees. You see, trees make me happy. Trees are one of my most favorite things to photograph and one of my favorite things about Hawaii is all of the many exotic trees we saw on our hike in the rain forest. We also chose to get married in Lake Tahoe because of all of the beautiful trees surrounding us. I really do sound like a tree huggin' hippie don't I? I probably don't have to tell you why trees are important for the environment, at least I hope I don't. You probably know they take in carbon dioxide and in turn put more oxygen into the air. In case you want to see some statistics, follow this link. They can do some pretty wonderful things for the environment actually and so that is why it is important to keep our rain forests around. I could spit out some facts and figures but you already know what would happen if we lose the rain forests. It would be truly disastrous. So this is another reason I try to buy products packaged with recycled materials. So many paper products out there can be made from post consumer content so why not? Why don't we demand more from the makers of the products we use everyday? Recently many companies have been getting the hint that less is more. So when you go to the store, why not take some extra time to read labels? Recycled paper is just as good as the regular stuff. I would also like to take a moment and introduce you to mystery tree. We found this sweet little plant growing last Spring right next to our house. I knew it wasn't just a weed and asked my husband not to pull it from the ground. Several months later we replanted it in our front yard and now have a baby tree. We still aren't sure what type of a tree it is but we know it's a tree. Maybe if anyone out there knows, you can holler in my direction??? Thanks for listening. Now go out there and plant a tree!
