Now Starting for the Royals - Coco Crisp. Traded.
http://www.redsoxsuperfan.com/blogger/2008/11/19/now-startin...It’s been confirmed. Coco is gone and the Red Sox get someone named Ramon Ramirez in the deal. Coco Crisp Traded Anyone who says they know a lot about Ramon Ramirez, the former Royal-now Red Sox relief pitcher is probably lying. He did pitch in 71 games last year for the Royals, and has also pitched with Colorado. I’m sad to see Coco go, though clearly Jacoby Ellsbury is the center fielder of the future. This will also trim the Sox payroll as Ramirez still makes close to the minimum and isn’t arbitration eligible yet. He’ll make right around $400,000 this year. Hopefully this will also mean the departure of Mike Timlin. Ramirez couldn’t possibly be worse than what this guy has become. Has he officially retired yet? Adios Coco, it was nice knowing you. Misc: Coco Traded, Wigginton, Peavy, Tex
http://www.metsblog.com/2008/11/19/misc-coco-traded-wigginto...The Red Sox have traded OF Coco Crisp to the Royals for relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez, reports Sports Radio 810 in Kansas City, according to MLB Trade Rumors. “The Astros seem likely to trade Ty Wigginton and Jose Valverde,” according to the Houston Chronicle. Wigginton, who bats right handed, and played third base and left field, hit .285 with 23 HR and a .350 OBP last season for the Astros, while batting .340 against lefties. Meanwhile, MLB.com reports, “The Nationals are still players in the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes,” according to a baseball source. Speaking of the NL East, now that the Cubs signed Ryan Dempster, the Padres may re-start talks with the Braves regarding Jake Peavy, says the San Diego Union-Tribune. In fact, at SI.com, Jon Heyman says Peavy will either play for the Padres or the Braves next season, while citing a league executive.

Crisp to Royals?
http://mlbhub.com/crisp-to-royals/UPDATE: The trade has been confirmed by both SI's Jon Heyman and the Globe's Nick Cafardo. A Kansas City radio station (WHB 810) is reporting that the Red Sox dealt Coco Crisp to the Royals for 27 year-old relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez. Neither the Red Sox nor the Royals have officially confirmed the trade yet, and (per MLBTR) Red Sox exec Ben Cherington was on XM's MLB Home Plate radio station saying "the report is premature." The Globe has more on the story from folks in KC:[D]uring an on-air interview a few moments ago, Royals senior adviser Mike Arbuckle would not confirm that the deal was complete. "I would say Coco is a good player and we're always interested in getting good players," said Arbuckle, who recently joined the Royals after working in the front office of the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies. Arbuckle politely declined a request from the hosts to evaluate Crisp as a player, saying, "Well, at this point, he's still under control of another organization. I wouldn't want to get into a tampering charge." The deal was first reported on the station by Brian McRae, a former Royals outfielder. When contacted via e-mail and asked if there was anything to this rumor, Kansas City Star columnist Joe Posnanski gave a one-word reply: "Yes." Per MLB.com, Ramirez went 3-2 with a save and a 2.64 ERA in 71 games for Kansas City this year, including 3-1 with a 2.33 ERA after the All-Star break.

Does Crisp deal open some doors?
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/11/19/does-crisp-deal-open-s...Does Crisp deal open some doors? November 19 It appears that the Red Sox have traded Coco Crisp to the Royals for reliever Ramon Ramirez. Makes sense for Boston, which has Jacoby Ellsbury to play center. Ramirez pitched well last season and is not yet arbitration eligible. Now here is the question: What will the Royals do with their glut of outfielders? They now have Crisp, Jose Guillen, David DeJesus, Mark Teahen and Joey Gathright. That’s one too many. The most likely scenario is trading Mark Teahen, maybe to the Cubs. There has been a lot of buzz about Teahen this winter and it can’t all be smoke. But in Yankees Fan Fantasy World (the place where Mark Teixeira comes on the cheap and Melky Cabrera has trade value), the Yankees could obtain DeJesus to play center field. DeJesus would be a good fit. He was .307/.366/.452 and is from Brooklyn. But shouldn’t the Royals be in the business of keeping guys like DeJesus? Their best outfield would be DeJesus, Crisp and Guillen. The Royals need pitching, starting and relief. Maybe there is a deal to be made there.
