Escape New York to Somewhere Just Like It [Urban Anthropology]
http://gawker.com/ 5063800/ escape-new-york-to-somew...Escape New York to Somewhere Just Like It Are you either moving to or leaving New York, and need to match up your precious little neighborhood with a corresponding one in a new city, so that you won't have to go without your organic muffin cafes and soy lattes on-demand? Homethinking has a neighborhood-comparison application. You can compare New York and L.A. (SoHo is Silver Lake!), or L.A. to Brooklyn (Echo Park is Williamsburg!) Or, say, New York to Detroit. (Results may vary.) [HomeThinking]

http://lifehacker.com/5063969/homethinking-finds-a-neighborh...Homethinking Finds a Neighborhood You'd Like in a New City Real estate web site Homethinking compares neighborhoods in different cities to help you find a new hood you'll like. Say, for example, you want to leave New York for Los Angeles. Homethinking tells you which neighborhoods in LA might fit your tastes based on which neighborhoods you like in New York (e.g., East Villagers might like Los Feliz or Echo Park). For a more detailed look at how the neighborhoods match up, click on a specific neighborhood. If you give it a try, let's hear how accurately it matches your expectations in the comments. Cream of the Crop? Top of the Heap?
http://sfist.com/2008/10/15/theres_no_place_like_new_york_ci...Found over in the gentle hands of Gawker, we came across this nifty thingamajig over at Homethinking. Basically, if you move to or from Manhattan, it figures out for you what neighborhoods in one city parallel famous nabes ones in NYC. And here's the comparison to SF. Hmm, we've heard of Harlem, SoHo, and Boston. Oh wait, there's no Boston on there. Oh double wait, that's a city in Massachusetts. Eh, they all speak with, like, way funny accents, love their own bluntness, and eat thin pizza -- same thing, right? Let us know, loud East Coasters. Anyway, if you want to check it out (or for a crisper image than above) , go here.
