Each summer the UAMS Medical Center Department of Volunteer Services offers teens the opportunity to participate in its summer volunteer program. This program invites teens to experience life in a medical facility and see firsthand the important role doctors, nurses, and other staff members play in bringing good health to the state of Arkansas. This year, the summer teen volunteer program will occur on the UAMS Medical Center Campus in Little Rock in three Monday-Thursday weekly sessions: June 23-July 3, July 7-July 17 and July 21-31. Only returning students or those admitted into Session I or II may be considered for Session III. Students may not attend all three sessions.
The program, open to students who will be at least fourteen (14) by May 1, is competitive and requires that all students submit an application and undergo an interview with a member of the Volunteer Services Department. The application deadline is Thursday, May 1, 2008 and all interviews will be conducted on 4 prearranged interview dates. All applicants must provide a valid and working e-mail address in order to receive important correspondence from the Volunteer Department, including information on interview scheduling. Final decisions will be made and students will be informed of their application status by Friday, May 23, 2008.
A mandatory orientation will be held on June 18 where teens will be informed of their final placement. A full commitment is expected for the duration of the session(s) for which the student is selected. Absences for family trips, camps or illnesses will be excused on an as-needed basis.
The Volunteer Services Department is anticipating another great summer with our teen volunteers – join us and be an important part of UAMS Medical Center’s World Class Care. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Gloria Wright, 501.686.5656, gjwright@uams.edu.
