Writing Center Appointments
Making an Appointment
- Appointments last 30 minutes.
- To be guaranteed an appointment, please schedule well in advance of the due date.
- Drop-ins are welcome if the tutor is available.
- Please schedule only one appointment per day per assignment, and schedule no more than two appointments per week. (You may drop in during unscheduled times for additional appointments if the tutor is available.)
- Even when our schedule looks full, we often have last-minute openings. Call or stop by on the half hour to check on late cancellations or no-shows.
When You Come In
- Be ready to begin writing: have either a draft or some concrete ideas about what you want to write.
- Your rough draft can be just that: rough and incomplete, consisting of an outline or just one section of the paper. Unless you are very confident about your writing, don't wait until you have a final draft and an imminent due date. It usually works best to come in with early drafts.
- If you're having trouble in a specific area, we'll work on that first.
- If you're ready to write but haven't yet begun, we'll help you to figure out where to start.
And Finally...
- Give yourself plenty of time to revise afterwards.
- Many students like to come in more than once per assignment.
- If you can't keep your appointment, please cancel it as a courtesy to other students. You may cancel an appointment either by phone, email, or on-line.
- We can answer general questions about writing via email, but please see us in person for detailed consultations.
- Our office is accessible only by stairs. If this presents a problem, we'll be happy to arrange a more convenient place to meet.
