Maybe the person who sent the email doesn’t believe making waves. But I am a wave-maker. Personally, I grew up in a violent home. The violence was allowed to continue because the people with the power to stop it didn’t want to rock the boat. After I became an adult, I made a vow that I would never be one of those people who stood idly by while others suffered. Speaking out against injustice is part of my life’s journey.

So. Not only am I standing up for human rights in this blog, but I’m going to take it a step further and support the boycott on businesses which gave an estimated $36 million to fund this horrible amendment! For a list of people and businesses who funded Proposition 8, visit AfterEllen.Com. Prop 8 does not protect and re-define marriage. It encourages discrimination, fuels fear and promotes hatred. These are not the kind of values that move us forward as a society.

To discuss this in my blog is entirely appropriate– and necessary in order for change to come about. Every voice counts! In the words of Margaret Meade, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has”.
