The BBC has secured the television rights to show Formula One in the UK from the 2009 season.
The five-year deal marks the return of the sport to BBC screens 12 years after ITV began broadcasting Grands Prix.
Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone said: "I am delighted to conclude this new deal with the BBC.
"It is an exciting time in Formula One and the BBC has some innovative new ideas to consolidate and expand our UK fan base."
The deal covers all platforms and will see F1 broadcast on the BBC Sport website, as well as on TV and radio.

I was bowled over when i heard the news,no more lost laps due to Ad breaks!!. I hate that.!
I agree martin brundle must be offered a contract, and i hope he would jump at the chance. Also PLEASE BBC in 5 years time when the rights come up for renewal DON'T lose them again. It's licence fee money very well spent.! HD Formula 1 would be fantastic bring it on !. At last F1 race coverage in it's entirety again. Thank god.!!

You are joking aren't you? We lose at least 2 gps worth of coverage every season!! I reckon we get at least 12 mins of ads per race, that adds up to around 4 hours of ads per season so 48 hours over 12 years or roughly 28 gps worth!!!
What is more annoying though is just how often you miss important events. The main overtaking moves or crucial pit stops always seem to be during an ad break!!

Great News. Let's hope we get to see Friday and Saturday Practice on the Red Button.
If we get some knowledgeable presenters it should be a good show. I agree - keep Brundle. Sack Allen. Fed up of hearing him climaxing everytime a car crashes. And as far as the theme tune goes don't bring back the Mac - please use 808 State's "Fuzz Nasty" [ZTT Records] as your new theme tune. Proper petrol-head music for the future F1 generation.

I remember when Eurosport done a good job with less bodies and more coverage. All should vote for their return, I would.

Thank goodness for this. I respect ITV and everything they do including highlights and coverage and build up on programs and on the website, but thankfully no ADVERTS!
I quite like the commentators so hopefully they can manage to keep them winkeye
