This site is dedicated to bringing history to life, for the casual browser and the complete enthusiast. There are nearly 10,000 pages for you to explore, and new content is added all the time.
The site is divided into four main areas: Topics Resources Practical History and Community.
Use the NAVIGATION to the left of the page to move around the site as depicted below. It also shows you where you are on the site by highlighting the section you are in. For example, in the left-hand navigation on this page 'Site guide' is highlighted in dark purple.

TOPICS embraces all the key historical themes and events that are covered in-depth on the site. They are arranged into four chronologically-ordered sections:

How to use the index pages
Click on the part of the image that you wish to know more about.
· Subject title This shows you which subject you are looking at. In this case, it is 'Empire and Sea Power'. This also shows where the subject lives. In this case, the subject 'Empire and Sea Power' lives in the section 'British History'.
back to image · Left-hand navigation This shows you where you are in the site. The subject you are looking at is in bold letters, in this case 'Empire and Sea Power'. The section where the subject lives is highlighted, in this case 'British History'.
back to image · Overview This gives you a brief introduction to the subject. It consists of a one-line summary to give you a 'flavour' of the subject, and an 'overview' article that outlines what the subject covers.* In this case, 'Empire and Sea Power' covers the battles of Trafalgar and Waterloo, but also key themes like Britain's rise as a world power and social reforms like the abolition of slavery.
