CLAS is the largest college at UConn, with more than 600 faculty and an enrollment of 56 percent of UConn students. CLAS students receive most of the PhDs granted at UConn. The College offers nearly 50 fields of study in 23 academic departments and many interdisciplinary programs.
As the academic core of the University, CLAS seeks to provide a liberal arts and sciences education that ranks among the best in the nation. By creating and disseminating knowledge in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences, CLAS helps students acquire the skills and knowledge to become independent thinkers, lifelong learners, and responsible citizens.
CLAS faculty win Alumni awards
Nancy Naples, professor of sociology, and Wolodymyr Madych, professor of mathematics, won the 2008 Alumni Association awards for faculty excellence in research. Two CLAS alumni also will be honored.
