Sometimes we offer enhanced multimedia content that requires special software additions to the standard browsers. These software additions are known as plug-ins. We only adopt plug-ins which are freely available to the public, and which have been widely adopted among our users already.
If a link on our site points to content which requires a plug-in, we will notify the user and offer a link to obtain the necessary plug-in.
Below is a list of the plug-ins we have adopted:
When visiting one of the above links, follow the download and installation instructions provided. Most plug-ins require the user to close down and reopen the browser after installation.
The Christian Science Monitor is now available to blind and visually impaired individuals through a partnership with the National Federation of the Blind's (NFB) NEWSLINE service. NFB-NEWSLINE is a service that reads newspapers and other information via synthetic voice using any touch-tone telephone. For more information, visit www.nfb.org or call 1-888-882-1629.
We offer a text-only version for users with slow Internet hook-ups or with disabilities that require special text readers. If you enjoy our graphical edition, but have difficulty printing articles, click on the "printer-friendly version" icon provided in each story.
Many browsers can be set to not present graphics. This can be done on some versions of Internet Explorer by clicking on the Tools pull-down menu, choosing Internet Options, clicking on the Advanced tab, scrolling down to Multimedia, and unchecking the Show Pictures box.
We have tried to design the web site to be consistent across a number of browsers. To that end, font-resizing is not available on most of our pages. However, font-size can be adjusted in the text-edition, as well as in the printer-friendly version of any story. A link to the printer-friendly version appears at the bottom of each story.
You can make csmonitor.com the first site you see when your browser loads. This can be done on some versions of Internet Explorer by clicking on the Tools pull-down menu, choosing Internet Options, and typing http://www.csmonitor.com in the text box marked Address. This can also be done on some versions of Netscape by clicking on the Edit pull-down menu, choosing Preferences, clicking on Navigator, and typing http://www.csmonitor.com in the text box marked Location. Thanks for making us your homepage!
