Welcome to Easy Orchids

Orchids are a very diverse group of plants from all climates except the arctic's and who knows... Many of those seen in garden centres and online shops tend to be hybrids between two plants often but not always of the same group. This offers us the best of both parents, perhaps showier flowers on one and better leaves on another.

The names of the orchids are quite a mouthful in many cases but you'll get used to them very quickly. Without doubt, the most popular orchid today is the Phalaenopsis or 'Moth `Orchid' which thrives in modern centrally heated homes and offices.

PROFESSIONAL GREENHOUSE SHADING / CONSERVATORY SHADING
In spring and summer screening is sometimes necessary to prevent the development of excess heat inside. This is where Temperzon comes in, a screening agent paint that becomes translucent during rain. Temperzon provides a white, rain-resistant sun filter which keeps the warmth outside and dims the light somewhat. Thanks to the fine pigment, perfect screening can be achieved with a thin, even layer. When it rains, the product becomes translucent and nearly all the available light can pass through, once dry, it becomes white again. In the autumn the dry protective layer can be easily brushed off.

Temperzon is waterborne and completely inert when dry. It contains absolutely no substances that are harmful or capable of polluting the water in lakes or ditches. Temperzon can be applied safely to glass and plastic and does not affect the surface. 1 litre will cover approx. 30 - 40 square metres with one coat, this is a 5 litre pack. Also available in green for a deeper shade

TIMELY TIPS

http://www.easyorchids.co.uk/site/content/view/27/69/

Phalaenopsis, beautiful as they are, do have a tendency to creep out of their pot over a 12 - 18 month period. Not only does this spoil the look of the plant it also means that flowering spikes grow out at strange angles.

Solution: This is in need of re potting!

ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES
Orchid Bark is universally used as an orchid growing medium for most types of subtropical and tropical orchids. This is because the bark (from a fir pine) does not rot or sour so quickly in the often damper and warmer than normal 'house plant' conditions and it remains very open textured allowing plenty of air to the roots. Opaque pots allow light to reach the roots and algae to form on their surface, this can help with moisture and nutrient uptake.

Available in course grade for Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, Cymbidium and other thick rooted plants as well as fine grade for Odontoglossum, Masdevillia and other thin rooted orchid. These items are available in the shop
