Things Learned in Blogging

October 16th, 2008 by Elizar

One of great benefits of blogging are the trivias you learned as you go and blog everyday with different topics each time.

Take me for example, I’ve been blogging random things and knowing the story behind those topics. I only noticed it just now that every time I blog a topic I learned something about it.

Take history for example, before I never knew the story of Juno Beach or the Battle of Passchendaele. Now? Although I’m not the authoritative about the topic, but I do know something about them now. Great huh? I can probably use it in Jeopardy :)

FCUK! again for example, if I didn’t got that misspelled I would not know about it too.. there are others things too…. like in music.. now I know Nessun Dorma and Flight of the Bumblebee great huh? :D, Nessun Dorma btw is in Italiank, online translator you can use to translate in english.

oh yeah, you earn moeny too!

With all those reason, here’s the big idea! Blogging is a home based business! Yes it is! It even beats my work salary! Gesh!

The Most Controversial Album Cover!

February 15th, 2008 by Elizar

Stumbled upon a site that enumerates the top 10 most controversial album of all time! And guess what? The Beatles is still in it! :)

Here’s their winning album cover (also knows as the ‘Butcher’ cover):

The Beatles Butcher Cover

The Australian photographer who shoot this photo was Robert Whitaker. Capitol Records wanted to released an album exclusively for the US fans, hence the album. But with the negative reaction of the people to the album cover, all copies was recalled (well, at least tried to recall).

This album of the Beatles with the Butcher cover is a rare item and will surely be priceless for any Beatles fan/collectors!

If you checked the top controversial album cover link, you’ll see that John Lennon’s “Two Virgin” album is on Top 3! Both naked. No need to use a magnifying glass to see those birdie.. :)

Sesame Street Trivia: Bert’s Brother Bart

December 13th, 2007 by Elizar

ernie and bert sesame street
It’s has been literally years (if not a decade or two) since I last saw an episode of The Sesame Street. I am proud to say that I grew up with Big Bird, The Count, Cookie monster, Grover, Ernie and Bert and the rest of the sesame street gang!

I think I learned my ABC with the help of that number 1, longest running children show (and Batibot too, of course). Which reminds me, said it once, said it twice, said it two times, my 21-month old   baby can do ABC!

Here’s the Trivia

Ernie and Bert are not Brothers! Can you believe that?! All these years I thought they are brothers.

Why would I not this? They live in the same house, share the same bed, share clothes… If they’re not brothers, some people are thinking that either Bert or Ernie is gay!

Laptop Buying Tips :: Pick a Laptop Processor

August 29th, 2007 by Elizar

Found this little article from Ebay while looking (just looking) for a $500 laptop that can complete with a $1,200 laptop - HP Pavillion DV2550SE. Hope this helps someone out there.

AMD and Intel make several processors typically found in laptops. Some optimize laptop battery life while others concentrate on performance. Mobile processors, indicated by the word “Mobile” or just “M,” need less power and generate less heat than processors designed for desktops.

Unless you need a powerful desktop replacement, get a mobile processor to extend battery life and prevent overheating.

  • Celeron: Intel’s budget-oriented chip with speeds up to 2.5GHz. They run slightly slower than Pentiums but not as slow as pentium-M!
  • Celeron-M:This low-cost processor has speeds up to 1.5GHz.People looking to email, surf the Internet, and use word processing applications will be fine with the Celeron-M. It replaced the Pentium III-M in the low-end laptop processor arena.

Every time I watch the news (Unang Bugso ng Unang Balita), there’s always bad news. Killings, accidents, fire, corruption and many more. But yesterday, I finally heard the good news I’ve been waiting for to benefit the Filipino people!

The only requirements is that you bring a barangay clearance. Age requirement is 18 to 50 years old. This is with conjunction with the government’s program: “Trabaho, Trabaho
MMDA specially mentioned that even those with criminal records can apply as long as they have the barangay clearance.

This really is a good news! If these guys are me I would buy some furniture on discount furniture stores! Hope everyday we’ll have similar news.

Size Doesn’t Matter

February 6th, 2007 by Elizar

RMS Queen Mary was one of the world’s largest ocean liners in December 1942, but that didn’t impress Mother Nature. As the ship steamed off the coast of Scotland during a gale, an enormous freak wave struck her broadside and sent her listing fully 52 degrees. The wave may have been 28 meters high; it smashed windows on the bridge 90 feet above the waterline. Later investigations estimated that 5 more inches of list would have turned her over.

The incident inspired Paul Gallico to write The Poseidon Adventure

Stop “Stop A” on Sun Sparc Keyboards

January 20th, 2007 by Elizar

How do we disable the Stop+A keyboard combination (or abort sequence) for a Sun sparc server/workstation? Read on to find out…

But first, why would we want to do that?

The Stop - A key combination for sparc will send a BREAK signal to the processor and will stop what ever the server is doing. The screen (if in GUI) might freeze and it will drop you to an ‘ok>’ prompt. From this prompt you can sync the system and power it down if you wish.

Another way to put you in the Open Boot - ‘ok’ - prompt is by inserting or unplugging a keyboard on a running Sun system

So, here’s how to do it:

kbd -a disable

You could also modify the /etc/default/keyboard file:

From:
#KEYBOARD_ABORT=disable

To:
KEYBOARD_ABORT=enable
