Liveblogging The Republican Convention - Day Three
What I still want to know is why Governor Palin is more qualified than Olympia Snowe or Christine Todd Whitman or Kay Bailey Hutchison. The McCain campaign hasn't answered that question.

Newt Gingrich on MSNBC just referred to Palin as McCain's "soulmate." I really don't think the Republicans understand what that word means. And now he just said that Obama was never the commander of the Alaska National Guard. Neither was Palin.
Over the course of his long career, Buchanan has defended a host of Nazi war criminals, made numerous anti-Semitic slurs, and disparaged Holocaust survivors.
Obama is right in that the best thing to do is just be quiet about Palin's family. If they continue this bizarre show, the mainstream media will hand McCain the election.
Of all the presidential contenders lined up on the stage in last year's AFL-CIO Chicago debate, Biden was the only one who had voted for the 2005 bill.
Fifteen thousand journalists in Denver and they couldn't even report what actually happened there. Instead, they invented a storyline of their liking....
McKinnon left the McCain campaign in June after saying he would "not be the tip of the spear" attacking Obama in an advertising campaign.
Once, Fox thought it had the market cornered on over-the-top populist outrage. No more. Hence the logic to the idea that Olbermann must be destroyed.
Last week a mix of water and sanitation experts gathered for World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden to mull over the world's biggest public health crisis. The problem is that not enough people paid attention.
So this is what political journalism has come to -- evidence-free, unaccountable, redfaced, shouted, demagogic cocksure mindreading.
Here's a guy on the bleeding edge of history, hours away from the biggest moment of his life watched by literally millions of people. The sense is inescapable of a person who, in that enormous moment, is at ease.
What is particularly noteworthy is where the media bias lies: it's a clear willingness to give John McCain (R) the benefit of the doubt, but not Barack Obama (D).
I was watching MSNBC and CNN -- but it felt like ESPN. I could not believe the convention coverage: they were analyzing things as if it were college sports.
Scarborough epitomized every boorish, condescending male that ever tried to diminish a woman... whether it be a family member, a co-worker, or a presidential candidate.
It seemed that most of the clearly biased shows on cable news had been publicly outed as such, but viewers learned there was yet another conservative Republican show:Election Center with Campbell Brown.
This frat boy, anti-Clinton wingnut-channeling tirade targeting Chelsea Clinton has proven that Shuster's not up to the job or the position to which MSNBC has bestowed on him.

"So it's the last night of this thing. I wonder if the Republicans will burn anyone in effigy tonight. It's really the only way they can top the frothing rage of last night's televised flame war."
...he raged, frothily.
' As I watch the GOP nominate Sarah Palin, I still wonder how last night was such a huge success. I mean, did anyone seriously believe she would choke on her own tongue or something? The speech was written before the campaign even knew who they were going to be forced by the right-wing to choose (minus the pronouns and biography) so, yeah, okay, she can speak and she can willingly submit to a level of snark unbecoming of an American public official. But because she didn't blow a loogy onto the camera lens, she hit a "grand slam." Imagine if Senator Clinton in her speech last week included a syllabus of distortions about John McCain and joked that, for instance, one of McCain's various gigs didn't include any "actual responsibilities." '
When your jaws finally unclench, read that paragraph aloud a few times--as many as it takes for you to notice that it's nothing other than a petulant little snit. Be sure to notice the primal impuissance.
You can find both "syllabus" and "distortion" in most English Language dictionaries. Neither were part of the speech that caused your outburst. Replace those words with "litany" and "facts" and you'll be on target.
Mr Cesca:
Will you do a peice on Pentacostels. I don't know enough about Palin's religion and how it may inform her political ambitions.
I watched exactly two minutes of this agonizing dirge and had to turn it off. I did catch Matthews afterward saying that McCain would be ahead in the polls by next week and thought I had really missed something. Definitely not from what I have read all over this morning. The man is a real downer and I don't think the Tupperware lady is going to be able to make up for that.
One thing troubles me about this post. How the hell does Bob Cesca still have Sam Adams Summer Ale? My local distributor told me weeks ago it was done for the year. Has he been hoarding it all Summer or is that Koch guy a left wing kooch?
One other thing, whatever happened to all the fresh faced young Republicans? Up With People, Dan Quayle? I didn't see many of them at the convention. Or any.
Bob -- simply hilarious! How do you do it? You must be a comedy writer, correct?
I didn't watch 'cause I knew I'd be bored. So, thanks for filling me in on the night's events with such humour?
You are brilliant!
