O’Dea accused of “kite flying” as midwest prepares for employment holocaust via The Limerick Blogger - latest Limerick news and Limerick events, today at 02:46

Willie O’Dea has come in for strong critisism for his claims that the IDA were working to secure 750 high quality jobs for Limerick. “The IDA have come up with a plan, funding proposals… to back a bid to Dell to put up to 750 jobs to add on to the base that is left,” This claim has been denied by IDA chief Barry O’Leary who described his comments as unhelpful. “I think one would want to be very, very specific about that and we wouldn’t be in a position to confirm that at this point. “Clearly in the same way as we have done with previous companies, we’re trying to get them to do more higher valued activities but I think it would be wrong to speculate about numbers Tainiste Mary Coughlan, who has also come in for critisism for not visiting... Lyrics On Friday via emmsy, today at 02:12

[I know, it's past midnight, technically Saturday, but still...] I had something else saved for today… but decided against it. So, this is what’s in my head today. How about you? As she sits in the corner face to the floor she dispels smoke from from her lips and slowly floats away with it letting go of so much pain her tears are thick enough to stain the pavement that slowly becomes her best friend when she needs to run away This is your time to weep This is your time to morn Not yet time to build up Just a time to tear down old walls Does it help to say I’m sorry If so than I’m sorry that your so unhappy This life those lies are starting get you down Darling don’t let them drag you around Saying “it’s my fault” doesn’t help repeated... Who By Fire — A Song For Israel and Gaza via Bock The Robber, today at 02:07

My Two Cents? via Spherical Notions, today at 01:45

image
Or your two cents?Today I stood waiting in a shop for two cents' change. After about five seconds, I realised that they weren't coming and, at pretty much the same precise moment, the shop assistant realised what I was waiting for and scooped a two-cent piece out of the till for me. A friend of mine had an identical experience last night, so I got to wondering: what's the protocol in situations like this?If you just walk off without waiting for your coppers, is that not a bit blasé? A bit "the extra few seconds of my precious time that I've saved by not waiting is worth a lot more than two bloody cents"?Or is it perhaps courteous to leave those cents with the shopkeeper, particularly considering the recessionary times we're living in? Maybe all the cennies will build up to postpone... Similar posts

The problems with (M) Dell, part 2 via techno-culture, today at 01:10

According to Chris Horn, who isn’t pulling many punches these days over on his blog:  Although the demise of Dell’s manufacturing was not a surprise, I was frankly surprised and disappointed by aspects of the way the announcement was made. Dell quite rightly insisted that they would tell their own staff first before anyone else.... Similar posts

One less Stooge - Ron Asheton via Stretch MacGibbon's Magical Musical Mlog, today at 01:03

Mike Watts and Ron Asheton It was shit to here about Ron Asheton dying. Listening to “Search and Destroy” and “I Wanna be yer Dog” will seem weirder now for Ol Stretch. Ron was always understated at least that’s what I thought. Saw them live two years ago and it rocked harder than a lot of stuff you here now from the weak-limbed, weak-wristed rockstars of the now. Shithawks one and all. There’s alot to be said for a belief in RAW POWER. Shame on you, purveyors of blandness.       ... Similar posts

So I bought Rod a wedding ring for Christmas because he asked me for one (where the other one went to is another story that I'm not sure anybody would be interested in) and he bought me the lovely camera that took this photo of his ring. I also took this shot of one of the best Christmas present he gave me. Him smoking one of the last of his cigarettes of the year. He's been off them nearly a week now and I really, really hope he can keep it up.The kids are back in school and getting into a routine again comes with it's added pressures like trying to convince four children that getting out of bed at 7.30am under minus one degree conditions is a worthwhile exercise.Pulling back on the freedom they've had over the holidays is also difficult especially with the older two but it's... Arrived back this week and its been non stop craziness. Wednesdays shoot was so much fun with Fionnsies helping me out. Last night went for a drink with Iany and Markie in Ryans and ended up in Soundcheck in Spy till way too late. Was so much fun. I only went out for research purposes though as I had to do a shoot with Fight Like Apes in Spy today so obviously I had to check out the location (even though I have been there 90 billion times before). Shooting with the FLapes was way too much fun. Check out the photees in AU magazine soooooon. Lili fighting like apes (Photee by Fionnsies)       ... Similar posts

Emma Modrate repeatedly performed sex acts on her boyfriend in the street in front of dozens of appalled passers-by. The 26-year-old landed herself in court for the despicable act which was captured on CCTV. Modrate performed the act three times on her boyfriend Liam Dougherty outside Yates’ pub in Durham city centre in front of outraged onlookers. At one stage a tramp stood behind the couple and chatted to Dougherty while the act was being carried out, Durham Crown Court heard. The court heard that Modrate had a long criminal history and has appeared in court on 33 occasions since 1998, surely not with a face like that. Sweet Emma This offence, on September 9 last year, breached a 12-month suspended prison sentence she was given in February 2007 for supplying diamorphine. Andrew... Similar posts

‘Atheist bus adverts could lead to watchdog ruling on God’s existence’ by Telegraph - RichardDawkins.net via Travors.com, Jan 9th, 2009 at 23:44

'Atheist bus adverts could lead to watchdog ruling on God's existence' by Telegraph - RichardDawkins.net: Officials at the Advertising Standards Authority are now considering whether to tackle the question that has taxed the minds of the world’s greatest thinkers for centuries. It has recorded 48 complaints since Tuesday when buses first hit the streets emblazoned with the message: “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.” At least 40 more people were understood to have made objections by last night. However Stephen Green, the Christian campaigner who led the protests against the BBC’s broadcast of Jerry Springer – The Opera, is claiming they should be taken down because the statement in the adverts cannot be substantiated. He said: “If you’re... Similar posts

Old Dogs and Very Old Tricks via Gav Reilly, Jan 9th, 2009 at 23:40

Well, that seemed to blow over quite quickly. Suddenly, does anyone care about Beverley Flynn’s €41k problem? With Patrick Neary just jumping ship as the Financial Regulator, the chances are that the analysis part of the story are going to be swallowed by Neary news in the weekend news cycles. To summarise the affair: after losing a libel case against RTE earlier in the decade, over news that Flynn (when working with National Irish Bank) had actively assisted customers in setting up offshore bank accounts, Beverly Flynn was kicked out of the Fianna Fáil party. Nonetheless, she fought the 2007 General Election as an independent candidate, and retained her seat. This is where the curious stuff comes to light: as an Independent TD, Bev was entitled to an annual allowance of €41k,... Similar posts
