Copy & Design Services provides the Kent State University community with presentation, publication and promotional materials for use in the classroom, research conferences and publications, campus-wide special events and other individual needs. There are charges for all services.

The copy center section is designed, staffed and equipped to provide a wide range of quality copy services at economical prices – from a three-fold flyer to a complex report notebook with tabs. Multi-colored inks and papers and a full range of finishing and binding options are available to meet the needs of faculty, staff and students. Please call (330) 672-1854 to schedule an appointment to discuss your large-volume copying needs.

The design unit of Copy & Design Services can accommodate just about any graphics need including studio and copy photography, custom design and printing of research and special event posters and displays, signs and banners, portfolio development, and art direction for producing computer graphics and digital imagery. This unit combines the latest products and techniques in photography and design to custom design your visual support needs. The New Media Center provides technological and pedagogical support for teaching, research and service and provides instructional design, digital video and graphics production and programming for university-wide new media initiatives. The center promotes computer literacy and expertise at Kent State University by providing hands-on group instruction in emerging technologies to faculty. Workshop topics include basic software applications such as WebCT, Dreamweaver and Excel, as well as more advanced topics in cooperation with the Faculty Professional Development Center.

Glyphix is a student design and illustration studio concentrating on visual communication design. It is based at Kent State University and provides services primarily for nonprofit organizations, such as hospitals, schools, public agencies, etc. Glyphix operates on a fee-for-service basis. Glyphix produces print materials such as annual reports, magazines, brochures and electronic materials such as Web sites, CD-ROMs and videos for its clients.

Created in 1973, Glyphix was one of the first such programs in the United States and the prototype for many student work-study design groups now existing on university campuses throughout the country. The staff is composed of eight to 10 senior and/or graduate students in the Visual Communication Design program.

If you choose to use Glyphix to design promotional materials for your department, be sure to consult with University Communications and Marketing to ensure visual and editorial standards are met and to coordinate printing.

The Signum Design Studio is a student-run design firm that executes visual communication designs by using the latest in computer applications and techniques. The firm offers one-on-one consultations and competitive prices. Services include illustrations, brochure design, programs and more.

The Instructional Resource Center is a technology support service for students, faculty and administrative offices in the College of Education. The Instructional Resource Center supports instruction, research and service activities that require technology. In addition to these services, the Instructional Resource Center directs long-range plans for implementing new technologies and stimulating effective use of such technologies by faculty and students. Although the Instructional Resource Center responds to many different requests for services, its policy is to not duplicate existing services provided by the University Library, Media Services, Teleproductions or University Information Systems. The Instructional Resource Center supplements these support organizations by providing more specialized technology.

The Instructional Resource Center lab boasts nine Windows, six Macintosh and two I-book computers, laser printers and scanners, digital cameras, production materials and high-end video editing computers. Also available is a collection of 17,000 print and nonprint titles appropriate for all grade levels.

The Kent State Copyright Clearance Service is an organized unit of Audio Visual Services that obtains copyright clearance for materials used in course packets, course reserves, distributed learning courses and multimedia productions. This service obtains legal permission for the duplication of copyrighted materials from copyright clearance centers, e.g., publishers and other copyright owners. The Copyright Clearance Service is the contact point for the creation of course packets and similar course materials.
