California State University has 23 campuses located throughout the state. The CSU offers more than 1,400 baccalaureate degrees, and Master's degrees in over 200 subject areas. To obtain a bachelor's degree from the CSU system, a student must complete a minimum of 120 semester units. Some majors have a higher unit minimum requirement for graduation.
A maximum of 70 units of transferable credit will be accepted toward the baccalaureate degree from courses completed at RSCCD. Prospective CSU transfer students should consult a RSCCD counselor regarding CSU admission, as requirements vary depending upon the student's status at the time of high school graduation.
Students who are undergraduate transfer applicants in good standing at the last institution attended, are eligible for admission to CSU if they have a grade point average of 2.0 (C) in transferable units completed and meet any of the following standards:
Students will qualify for admission as a lower division transfer student (completed less than 60 transferable semester/90 quarter units) if they have a grade point average of 2.0 or better in all transferable units attempted, are in good standing at the last college or university attended, and meet one of the following standards:
1. Student was eligible for admission as a freshman at the time of high school graduation
2. Student was eligible for admission as a freshman at the time of high school graduation, except for subject requirements and have since completed the missing subjects at high school or college.
Upper division applicants are those with 60 semester units (90 quarter units) completed. Students must have a 2.0 grade point average (2.4 for non-residents) or better in all transferable units attempted and be in good standing at the last college or university attended.
In addition, upper division applicants must have completed at least 30 semester units of college coursework with a grade of C or better in each course to be selected from college level:
English, Arts and Humanities, Social Science, Physical and/or Life Sciences, and Mathematics.
The 30 units must include all of the general education requirements in:
1. English language
2. Critical Thinking
3. Oral Communications
4. Mathematics and/or quantitative reasoning
Students should complete lower-division preparatory major courses. Some majors require specific coursework before admission to the major, and selected majors may have a higher grade point average than that designated for general admission to the university. It is highly advised that students fulfill all the lower division major requirements prescribed by the transfer institution. Consult a counselor or the ASSIST website for lower division major requirements.
