Beth B. Eaton Scottish Rite Language and Literacy Center

The Scottish Rite Masons are an international fraternal organization whose philanthropy is childhood language and literacy disorders. The Scottish Rite Masons have devoted much of their energy to helping children with language and literacy disorders reach their potential. Across the country, the Freemasons of the Scottish Rite have established over 100 clinics
for childhood language and literacy disorders.

In Arkansas, this facility is the Beth B. Eaton Language and Literacy Center and is located at the UALR/UAMS Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. The Eaton Center, established in 1998, serves children from birth through adolescence who are having difficulty hearing, speaking, or comprehending language. Approximately 50 children are seen each year for diagnostic and therapeutic services, with all professional fees covered by the Scottish Rite Masons.

Preschool Language Group Update

We are having an exciting year in PELP. We have 10 children enrolled and five student clinicians. Our graduate student trainee for the year is Barrett Rawlins.  Barrett is a second year graduate student and is enjoying this leadership role. As the selected Scottish Rite PLEP trainee, Barrett received a stipend of $2500.00 from the Scottish Rite Masons. Dr. Greg Robinson, the department’s newest faculty, began working with PLEP in January, 2006. He brings new expertise and new perspective to the PLEP program.

The PLEP group meets on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:00 until 12:00. Our mornings are filled with language and literacy activities. If you're on campus on either of those mornings, please stop by and visit with us. The Scottish Rite Masons provide funds to pay for selected children to receive scholarships.

If you are interested in scheduling an appointment or would like additional information, please contact Beth Eaton,, Director of the Scottish Rite Language and Literacy Center, at (501) 569-3155.
