In addition, residents spend one half day per week throughout the year in the adult outpatient clinic for long-term psychotherapy training. Each resident will treat at least three psychotherapy cases throughout the last three years of the program. These are used as teaching cases in psychotherapy supervision. Residents begin to follow patients longitudinally with chronic psychotic disorders during the second year; they continue to follow these patients during the 3rd and 4th years.

Didactics
On Thursday afternoons PGY 2 residents attend three lecture/seminar sessions. The first lecture of the afternoon is the child and adolescent series. The second session presents general psychiatry topics. The third session covers psychotherapy theory. During the first two months of the PGY 2 year, residents receive special instruction in conducting psychotherapy through an innovative seminar series with experienced Psychotherapists.
Call
Residents are required to cover twenty call shifts (12 hour) for the entire year. Optional Arkansas State Hospital and Arkansas Children’s Hospital call is available. Residents are paid for these calls beyond their normal salary.
