UAMS Tissue Bank
The UAMS Tissue Bank was launched on April 12, 2005. A joint venture of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the Department of Pathology, and other UAMS contributors, the bank is an institution-wide tissue procurement facility, coordinating and overseeing the donation, processing, storage, and dissemination of tissue specimens and related data. This effort provides UAMS researchers access to tissue processed in a standardized manner, in compliance with institutional and federal regulations. The end result is a significantly enhanced research environment that will attract additional funding and resources. In addition, the tissue bank satisfies one requirement needed for NCI designation of the Cancer Institute as a comprehensive cancer center. Solid tissue specimens from many organs and organ systems are included in the bank’s collection. In addition, our inventory includes serum specimens, with future plans to bank urine, nucleic acids, and other tissue products. All specimens are annotated with clinical data. The bank’s database is accessible and searchable online using pathological and clinical parameters. For additional information and inquiries please contact our banking staff.
