Our Staff

The Department of Occupational Health and Safety is under the Division of Campus Operations. We provide many services to the campus community, including:

Safety Training on topics such as New Employee Orientation Safety Training, Blood Borne Pathogens, Radiation Safety, Fire Safety and Drills, Respiratory Protection, Hazard Communication, and the UAMS Chemical Hygiene Plan.

Hazardous Waste Management for biohazardous and medical wastes, radioactive wastes, and waste chemicals.

Safety Inspections in the form of Laboratory Safety Audits, Building Fire and Life Safety Inspections, and JCAHO Safety Audits.

Hazard and Accident/Injury Reporting - all accidents and injuries should be reported to OH&S using the UAMS Incident and Injury Report available from Employee Health/Student Preventive Service or Distribution Services. Any situation that you believe is a safety hazard on campus can be reported using the Hazard Report Form, available online or in our office.

Surveys and monitoring include ergonomic workstation assessments, routine monitoring for radiation exposure, contamination surveys of equipment and sinks for radioactive materials, close-out surveys on labs using radioactivity, fume hood face velocity measurements, and air sampling for airborne pollutants.
