This is an excellent pocket-sized reference of eye diseases, ophthalmic drugs, surgical and examination procedures, diagnostic tests, etc.

This book is a comprehensive directory of companies and agencies which provide products and services for this population. This book is now out of print, but is available on-line here.

How to Thrive, Not Just Survive: A Guide to Developing Independent Life Skills for Blind and Visually Impaired Children and Youths, by Swallow and Huebner;

Planet of the Blind, by Kuusisto; This books tells about the author growing up legally blind at birth and raised by parents who denied his handicap. As he grew up, he disavowed his blindness and pretended to see much better than he actually could. Only after he graduated college and was, for a time, employed, was he able to accept his blindness and reach out for help: first a white cane and then Corky, a guide dog that changed his life.

The Premature Baby Book: A Parent's Guide to Coping and Caring in the First Years, by Harrison and Kositsky; This book is a fabulous reference to parents who have a premature baby. It offers excellent descriptions of the medical and emotional issues ahead, possible causes for the prematurity, how to cope during and after your child's NICU stay, lists of resources (including where to find preemie sized clothing and diapers), and personal stories.

Touching the Rock - An Experience of Blindness, by Hull; This book is about a man who after a lifetime of eye problems, finally lost his eyesight in his thirties. It tells of the struggles he went through as he adapted to his loss. It offers tremendous insight into how people without sight view and experience the world, from someone who can relate the experience as both a sighted and blind man.

Travel Tales: A Mobility Storybook, by Gold, Adler and Jones; This book is a storybook about a fictional character named Elliot. He is blind and travels around using sighted guide, trailing, etc. and to different environments. It has 17 short stories,

Windows 95 Explained: A Guide for Blind and Visually Impaired Users, by Morley;
This book, published by the Royal National Institute for the Blind, is aimed at individuals, trainers, schools and libraries and anybody working with Windows 95 and users with special needs, who need to learn how to use Windows 95 - without having to see the screen. It describes the fundamental Windows 95 concepts from a non-visual perspective, and provides a listing of Windows keyboard commands together with a comprehensive glossary, which will enable current computer users to start to work comfortably in Windows 95 with whatever access technology they have.
